6 stars! or 10. 12 minutes to Jay, access to a kitchenette in the basement, awesome proprietor... everything you want and need to be able to ski at Jay when you don't live nearby.
Decor is definitely rough around the edges (it's an old school ski lodge) but very friendly and accommodating check in. Perfect location for Jay. Quiet on a weekday (I think it explodes on weekends). Den-like basement with pool, ad hoc ping pong, and cooking facilities that could use an update but worked just fine. Large fridge for guests. Walls between rooms were thin. Really nice to have the sauna.
Stayed with an outdoors group here, and this is a great low key, family-run place. Owners are welcoming, and even hung out with us during our stay as well as making a genuine home-cooked breakfast. There's also a kitchen for cooking meals and ample parking. As others have commented, not for families, and if you want a quiet night watching TV then this isn't the place. But if you don't mind basic accommodations, want a warm welcome and good cooking, you found your spot
My first time visiting was February 2020. This is the only way to go when skiing Jay's Peak in my opinion. It is just a great all around experience, and very affordable. You can prepare all of your meals at the lodge to avoid high resort meal costs. It's a home away from home feel and you get to interact with other skiers and travelers in the common areas. I am definitely coming back to Jay's Peak and when I do I will be staying at Grandpa Grunts for sure!
This is a great old-school ski lodge close to Jay Peak resort. The place has a great vibe and is best for singles, couples, or groups of friends, but probably not ideal for families with small children. It's an excellent value, but cash is preferred for payment so make sure to hit up an ATM before checking in. They have a large lounge area in the basement with pool, darts, and space for card or table games, and sometimes fire up the wood stove. The place also has a pretty legit sauna. Close to food/drink/grocery options and easily located just off the town's main intersection. I hope to stay here again in the future.
A unique and welcoming lodge, with lots of personality and charm! The rooms are clean, with comfortable beds. The common room in the basement is comfy and lively, with a fireplace, pool table, dart board, ski-sharpening station, and a kitchen for guest use. Would definitely recommend and return for another stay!
This place is fantastic! A friend and I stayed for 3 nights on a planned trip to snowboard at Jay Peak. Brad was friendly, helpful and even made breakfast one of the days which was AMAZING! When we were not on the slopes we were able to enjoy the pool table, the sauna, and some great company with other like minded guests. Keep in mind that this is a ski lodge and not the Hilton, but for us this was a positive and not a negative! Truly a great expierience! I would definitely stay here again!
